Frequently Asked Questions

What is psychotherapy/psychoanalysis?
Psychoanalytic psychotherapy and psychoanalysis is a form of talk therapy that essentially makes the unconscious, conscious, helping one understand their life right here, right now.

What is drama therapy? Is it therapy for only for actors?
Not at all! From the North American Drama Therapy Association, "Drama therapy is the intentional use of drama and/or theater processes to achieve therapeutic goals." Drama therapy is not only for people who act but for anyone who finds that sometimes it's difficult to express themselves. I work collaboratively with my clients to discover what creative processes work. As we're talking I may use metaphors, creative writing, or role-playing to help us understand what we're talking about. By no means is it a requirement to do anything you are uncomfortable with.

What does a session look like?
Typically, we will start out talking and it can continue that way. When I suggest a creative intervention, it's often when we've discussed an issue and I can sense you are having a difficult time accessing your thoughts and feelings.

How do I start seeing you?
The first meeting is a free-of-charge consultation where we discuss what has brought you to therapy, answer any questions you have, and see if I'm the best therapist for you. Finding the right therapist is vital to your growth. If you or I feel that we will not be a good match after the consultation, I will be more than happy to refer you to another clinician.

How long are the sessions? How often do I see you?
Sessions are 45 minutes. I often see people 1 or 2 times a week depending on what your needs are.

What is your reschedule/cancellation policy?
I require 48 hours (2 days) advanced notice for all rescheduling/cancelation requests to avoid any fees.

All rescheduling and cancellation request done 24 hours or less before your scheduled appointment is subject to a late cancellation fee equal to the session fee. Sessions that are not attended are subject to a “no show” fee equal to the session fee.

Do you take health insurance?
No, although most insurance plans cover out-of-network treatment. Please contact your health insurance provider for more information.
